Celebration of the Festival of endogenous cults in Benin: Fête de Vodoun
Today is January 10, the celebration of the Festival of endogenous cults in Benin.
This festival which highlights the voodoo culture is a time when the Beninese can enhance their cultural identity and be proud of it. It is celebrated every 10th of January.
The festival of endogenous religions was established in 1992 by the then President of the Republic, Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo. It is celebrated every January 10 and has become the most admired cultural event among the people of Benin.
Legend has it that the president instituted it to show his gratitude to this religion that saved him. He would have been ill when he had the destiny of the country in hand. Despite several treatments outside, his state of health was reportedly not improved. Without hope, he would have resorted to the Beninese tradition to finally find a cure.
More and more enthusiasm around the voodoo party
The Beninese are less and less complex. They have been showing pride in voodoo culture for a few years. They accept themselves being Africans in general and Beninese in particular. It is with pride that the Beninese people brandish their cultural identity regardless of their religious faith. Thus, from North to South and from East to West of the country, the holiday is celebrated.
