Today is January 10, the celebration of the Festival of endogenous cults in Benin.
This festival which highlights the voodoo culture is a time when the Beninese can enhance their cultural identity and be proud of it. It is celebrated every 10th of January.
The festival of endogenous religions was established in 1992 by the then President of the Republic, Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo. It is celebrated every January 10 and has become the most admired cultural event among the people of Benin.
Legend has it that the president instituted it to show his gratitude to this religion that saved him. He would have been ill when he had the destiny of the country in hand.
